Fire Marshal

The Fire Marshal’s office consists of the Director of Public Safety, Deputy Director of Public Safety, and two Assistant Fire Marshals. The Fire Marshals assist volunteer departments on emergency calls when needed. Fire prevention, community risk reduction, and smoke alarm installations are some of the daily responsibilities.

The Fire Marshal’s office is responsible for investigating cause and origin of house fires, vehicle fires, and other fires when requested by local fire departments.

On top of the investigations, Fire Marshals are also responsible for enforcing the Virginia Statewide Fire Prevention Code. This includes fire inspections on all commercial businesses, schools, day cares, and many others. Fire code complaints are also investigated by this office.

The Fire Marshal's Office not only enforces relevant fire codes, but also works closely with the Building Inspectors and Community Development on many occasions. Both departments work together to remedy unsafe structures, inspect fire protection system installations, and much more.
