Deeds

The Land Records Division accepts documents from property transactions in Pittsylvania County. All document types can be submitted over-the-counter at the County Courthouse during business hours. You can also send documents through the mail or E-RECORDING

Pittsylvania County does not require a land record cover sheet, but you may provide a fully completed cover sheet if you choose.

  • Documents must be on uniformly white, single-sided paper, free of watermarks and background logos. 
  • Each individual surname must be bold, underscored, or written in capital letters.
  • Documents must state to whom they are being returned and include the address. A self-addressed stamped envelope is required for mailing. 
  • The County Parcel ID number must be on the first page of all documents affecting real property. You can obtain your parcel number by contacting the Commissioner of the Revenue or visiting the County's GIS website
  • We accept cash, check, money orders, and debit/credit cards. A convenience fee will be charged for card use. The fee is $2 for transactions of $50 or less and 4% for transactions over $50.
  • All documents must be properly acknowledged and contain a clear, reproducible notary seal or stamp. Virginia notaries must also include their registration number and commission expiration date. 

Land Records

All Pittsylvania County land records are available to the public for reference and research. Copies of the records can be obtained at a cost of $.50 per page. An additional fee of $2 per instrument is required for certified copies. 

We maintain all land recordings and public records in this office, including:

  • Plats
