1% SALES TAX FOR SCHOOLS
In November 2022, Pittsylvania County voters approved a 1% sales tax referendum designed to assist with infrastructure needs for Pittsylvania County Schools.
The 1% sales tax increase collection began July 1, 2023, and will be in effect until February 15, 2042. The money can only be spent to address new school capital infrastructure needs.
Targeted improvements include:
• HVAC, window, roof and systems replacements at several schools
• Eliminating mobile classrooms
• Enhanced security with entrance vestibules
• Expanded courses at the Pittsylvania Career and Technical Center
Pittsylvania County received its first disbursement from the sales tax increase on September 25, and overall, it is estimated to generate about $3 million a year in revenue. The County will receive a disbursement on the 25th of each month.
