Payment Options
- Online with a debit or credit card. Citizens can pay online through the Pittsylvania County Payment Portal.
- By phone. To pay by credit card, call toll free 1-800-272-9829 (800-2PAY-TAX). For telephone payments, enter your jurisdiction Code (6216) when prompted.
- By check in the mail. Citizens can mail their check to P.O. Box 230 Chatham, VA 24531
- In one of the two dropboxes located outside the courthouse, one of which is on the wall before the security entrance into the building and the other is in the parking lot behind the building.
- In person with cash, check, or credit or debit card at the Pittsylvania County Courthouse (11 Bank Street Chatham, VA 24531) or one of several area banking institutions: all American National Bank & Trust and First Citizens Bank locations in Danville and Pittsylvania County, as well as the main and Vista branches of First National Bank of Altavista.

The solid waste fee is an annual bill of $120 that supports the operations of the county-run landfill in Dry Fork and the many convenience centers spread throughout Pittsylvania County. The Personal Property Tax rate is $9.00 per every $100 of assessed value, while the Pittsylvania County Real Estate Tax Rate is $0.62 per every $100.00 in assessed value.
All of these bills are split into multiple payments, which come due in December and June.
The Treasurer’s Office is not responsible for setting any of these tax rates or assessing any property; the Commissioner of the Revenue is responsible for the Assessment process and valuations, while the the Board of Supervisors is responsible for setting the different tax rates.
