Each year, the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Deputies and other employees have thousands of contacts with people when dealing and having interactions for all the Sheriff’s Office is responsible for to include Law Enforcement, Jail , Court Security and Civil Process services.

In some cases, individuals may question why an incident was handled in a particular way, or they may wish to acknowledge the employees involved on a job well done, or they may disagree with the actions of a sheriff’s office employee.

Commendations

Everyone likes a pat on the back when they do a good job. Pittsylvania employees are no different. Although unexpected each year, the Sheriff’s Office receives hundreds of employee commendations from the public we serve and protect.

When you receive service from our Sheriff’s Office that you feel is worthy of a commendation, we would like to hear about it. 

Please include all the information you can remember such as the employee's name, the date, time, and circumstances of the outstanding service. 

Sheriff Mike Taylor himself will receive your commendation. Our policy is to forward commendations to those sheriff’s office employee identified. They will be notified of your commendation as will their supervisors and coworkers, along with copy also being placed in his/her Sheriff’s Office employee file.

Complaints

The Office of the Sheriff has primary oversight and authority over investigations of allegations of misconduct made against any Sheriff’s Office employees. 

The Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office public image is determined by a professional response to allegations of misconduct against its employees. 
The establishment of procedures for the acceptance of complaints is crucial to demonstrate and protect the integrity of the Office. 

This Office shall accept, and fairly and impartially investigate, all complaints or allegations of misconduct to determine their validity. The Office shall timely impose any disciplinary or nondisciplinary corrective actions that may be warranted. 
All complaints against the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office and/or employee conduct shall be accepted and documented regardless of whether the filed complaint is in writing, verbally in person, by mail, by telephone (or TDD), by facsimile or electronically, or anonymously. 

The Sheriff will maintain a record of all complaints made against the agency or employees and maintain the files in a secure area. The Bureau of Performance Management and Internal Control/Internal Affairs is the Sheriff’s designee and is responsible for administrating the complaint process in conformance with the Sheriff’s Office policies and procedures and relevant state law.

Sheriff Mike Taylor himself will review your complaint and will order an investigation into the matter.
