Meals Tax Information

Effective September 1, 2021 the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors enacted a 6% meals tax to be collected by all food establishments.

Every restaurant, caterer, coffee shop, convenience store, grocery deli, etc. located in Pittsylvania County engaged in the business of selling meals and/or beverages is required to collect a 6% food tax on the amount paid for meals purchased from any food establishment, whether prepared in such food establishment or not and whether consumed on premises or not. This tax shall be collected in trust and remitted to Pittsylvania County Commissioner of the Revenue office on or before the twentieth (20th) day of the month following the month in which the taxes are collected.

To register to collect this tax, you may contact the Commissioner of the Revenue Office for Pittsylvania County for a registration packet or download the Meals Tax Return Form and monthly reporting forms.
