Public Records

As the keeper of the records of Pittsylvania County from 1767 to the present, the Pittsylvania County Clerk of Court is responsible for maintaining the following records: 

  • Case filings in civil and criminal cases 
  • Probate matters, including wills, inventories of estates, lists of heirs, and accounts 
  • Marriage licenses
  • Marriage bonds
  • Land records, plats, deeds, maps, and transactions 
  • Bonds
  • Charters
  • Certificates of Fictitious names

With the exception of a few sealed records, like Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court Appeals, all records can be viewed in person at the Clerk's Office. The Circuit Court Clerk staff can help you find the documents and records you are looking for. 

The fee for copies is $0.50 per page. If you need your copy to be certified (stamped and signed by a deputy clerk with a seal attached) there is an additional fee of $2.00 per document.
