Child Care Assistance

Subsidy Program

The Child Care Subsidy Program assists families in paying child care costs for children under age 13 who are not eligible to attend public school and children with special needs under age 18 who reside with the applicant. If you are eligible and are approved for services, the Subsidy Program can pay a portion of your child care costs. These payments are made directly to the child care provider.

Additional information regarding Child Care and to apply online can be found on the Department of Education’s website.

To continue in the Child Care subsidy program, certain changes must be reported to the Department of Social Services no more than 10 days after they occur. These changes include:

  • A change in income where your gross (before taxes) monthly family income amount exceeds the eligibility limit for your family size. (Please refer to the Notice of Action mailed to you from your childcare worker.)
  • A change in household members
  • A change of address
  • A change of childcare provider

A Change Report may be sent to our office or completed online, through CommonHelp. Also, forms (including the Change Report) may be accessed via the VDSS public site.
