Identifying A Need
The Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors identified broadband access as a vital component of its 2019 strategic plan, an effort that gained added urgency during the recent COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2021, the County issued a request for proposals for the project and two internet providers responded. The Board selected RiverStreet Networks. RiverStreet, based in North Carolina, is focused on delivering the latest and best technology to unserved and underserved rural areas. The company also had a strong footprint in Pittsylvania County and the surrounding area after it acquired SCS Broadband, Peoples’ Mutual Telephone Company and Gamewood Technology Group.
