Adoption Process

Adoption Requirements

The Pittsylvania Pet Center screens all potential adopters to ensure that the animal will have a safe and loving home. Those who are interested in adopting an animal from the Pet Center can fill out Dog Adoption Profile or Cat Adoption Profile before visiting. (You can also print and fill out the PDF versions of the dog adoption application or cat adoption application and e-mail them to Jenna Creasy or bring them in person.)

Below are some general requirements for adopting a Pet from the Pittsylvania Pet Center.

  • Must have a valid photo ID
  • If you live at an address that isn’t on your ID, you must provide proof of residence (such as an electric bill) at your current address.
  • Home checks may be conducted
  • Very few of our animals require a fenced in back yard, but for some, we do require it.
  • Vet reference
  • No declawing cats
  • If the adopter has another dog, it is mandatory that we do a meet and greet at the Pet Center. This ensures that everyone in the household will get along.

If you have questions, please contact the Adoption Lead at (434) 432-1989 ext. 105
