Find the LOVE: Wayside Park
The LOVEworks sign at Wayside Park in Hurt was installed in 2020 and was designed and built by Pittsylvania Career and Technical Center students. At 8 feet tall and 25 feet long, the four letters represent the history of the Town of Hurt. The “L” represents the smokestack at the former Klopman Mills textile plant. The “O” shows the swinging bridge over Sycamore Creek, along with a black bear. On the back of the “O” is a tribute to the students who worked on the sign, as well as acknowledging the businesses that contributed to its creation. The “V” is made from old railroad ties, as Hurt was a hub for rail activity. The “E” resembles the steel supports of the train trestle on Main Street and across from the sign.
Wayside Park is located at 1678 Main St. in Hurt.
