County Attorney

Responsibilities

The County Attorney's Office provides legal counsel to the Board of Supervisors, the County Administrator, and a majority of county officers, departments, agencies, commissions, and boards.

The County Attorney's Office also represents the county in matters of litigation. All legal work is civil in nature, with the exception of the prosecution of criminal misdemeanors involving Animal Control, some Code Compliance issues, and the Treasurer's Office. All other criminal matters are prosecuted by the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office.
