Pittsylvania County Circuit Court Judge Stacey Moreau appointed Robert M. Tucker Jr. to represent the Banister District on the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors. The interim appointment became effective Friday, November 4, 2022.

A lifelong resident of Pittsylvania County, Tucker is the Senior Pastor of Sunflower Missionary Baptist Church and the General Sales Manager at Berglund Auto Group in Lynchburg. He is a graduate of Gretna High School and holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Averett College (now Averett University).

A special election for the Banister District seat will be held in 2023, with the winner serving the remaining two years (2024 and 2025) on the original Banister District term. The seat will be up for its regularly scheduled election for a new four-year term in 2025.

Overview 

Due to the retirement of Jessie Barksdale in September of 2022, Robert M. Tucker, Jr. was appointed in November 2022 to represent the Banister District through 2023. A special election will be on the ballot in November of 2023 for the remaining two years of the Banister District seat on the Board of Supervisors. Pittsylvania County Chief Circuit Court Judge Stacy Moreau signed and approved the County’s Writ of Special Election.

The next steps for the Banister District seat on the board of Supervisors are summarized below: 

  • Robert M. Tucker, Jr. was appointed to represent the Banister District from the fall of 2022 through 2023. 
  • The winner of the 2023 special election will represent the Banister District for 2024 and 2025, which is the remainder of the term. 
  • In 2025 the seat will be up for its regularly scheduled election for a new four-year term beginning in 2026.
