Chris Adcock, the Director of Pittsylvania County Public Works since July 2020, is responsible for oversight of the department, which includes the division of solid waste, the landfill, water and sewer operations, and building and grounds maintenance. His day-to-day job duties include overseeing staff, coordinating with contractors and engineering consultants, utilizing design and other operations software, reviewing water and sewer operations, purchasing new equipment, coordinating with maintenance, and working with regulatory agencies.
Chris has his bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Virginia Tech. He is also a registered professional engineer in Virginia and North Carolina, has a class five water works operator's license, and is working towards obtaining a waste management facility operator license. Before taking on his current position, he worked for a consulting engineering firm in Danville. He later went to work for the City of Danville in their engineering and water and gas division. In 2013, he became the Director of the Pittsylvania County Service Authority, the County water and sewer provider that was established in the 1970s. In 2020, when the Service Authority became part of the general county operations, he took on his current position. Chris decided to accept this job because he wanted an advancement and a challenge in his field.
Chris is married with one son. He enjoys hiking, mountain biking, brewing beer, overlanding, and attending music festivals. He also recently purchased a 1980 Bajaj Chetak scooter which he looks forward to riding with local clubs.
