In anticipation of the upcoming 2025 Virginia General Assembly, the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors approved its Legislative Priority List.
This list was compiled with the assistance of County staff, the Board and the County’s Constitutional Officers, and it will be sent to the County’s legislators prior to the 2025 Session, which begins January 8.
Key points are as follows:
• The Board opposes any possible legislation to go before the 2025 General Assembly that would remove local control and regulation of solar facilities, solar siting agreements or energy storage facilities (HB 636, SB 567 and SB 697 specifically).
• The Board requests that the General Assembly amend Virginia Code §15.2-1414.3 to make County Board member pay based on population the same as the recently revised Virginia Code §15.2-1414.6 increasing City Council member pay based on population.
• The Board also opposes House Bill 646 and any other bills that remove local control and/or regulation of assisted living facilities and/or group homes.
• The Board is also in favor of securing funding for the Cherrystone/Roaring Fork Dam Rehabilitation Project.
"The Board is pleased to work with our two delegates and our senator on potential legislation that could impact the future of our County and our citizens. It is the Board’s hope that these priorities receive full consideration by the General Assembly and that the desired outcomes are realized,” said Darrell Dalton, Chairman, Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors.
The Board met with Delegates Danny Marshall and Eric Phillips and Senator Mulchi on October 8 to go over its legislative priorities for 2025.
