Library Board

Meetings 

The Pittsylvania County Public Library Board of Trustees meets on the second Monday of the month at 5:45 pm unless otherwise announced, in July, September, November, December, February, April and June. Meetings are held in the meeting room of the History Research Center & Library.

Composition:

The Board is composed of 10 members, one from each District and a representative from the Town of Gretna, Town of Chatham, and the Town of Hurt. The Library Board of Trustees members are appointed by the Board of Supervisors." The members serve four-year terms.

Function/Duties:

The Pittsylvania County Public Library Board of Trustees is a governing board. Key duties of the board include:

  • Employing a competent and qualified library director and maintaining an ongoing performance appraisal process for the director;
  • With the library director, determining the mission, goals and objectives of the library and adopting written policies governing the library;
  • Providing oversight and approval of the library budget and spending;
  • Developing long-range plans to meet community needs;
  • Advocating for and raising funds on behalf of the library;
  • Ensuring the provision of a free, public, and nonsectarian library for all residents in the library's service area.
