At its regular Business Meeting on March 15, the Board of Supervisors passed a resolution to invalidate the 2022 reassessment data. This action was taken due to significant concerns that have emerged regarding the assessment’s statutory reassessment compliance, data integrity, and uniform/equitable application of values.
With this resolution, the County’s Commissioner of the Revenue is directed to reinstate and certify the County’s 2021 real estate values for County taxes. The County’s Finance Director is also directed to utilize the County’s 2021 real estate tax values for the FY23 County budget.
County Staff have been directed to issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) for a new general County tax assessment for values to be effective January 1, 2024.
As required by law, Pittsylvania County conducts its general real estate assessment every four years. Following a legally conducted procurement process, Brightminds, LLC, a licensed real estate appraiser, was selected to conduct the County’s 2022 general tax assessment.
