After the severe winter weather that slammed our region on February 13, downing trees and power lines and leaving many without power, Pittsylvania County leaders decided to waive tipping fees for storm debris at the landfill through May 14. This 90-day waiver of the landfill tipping fees was approved during the February 16 Board of Supervisors meeting as part of a local declaration of emergency.

“We understand that the majority of our residents felt the impacts of the severe winter weather in our region on February 13,” said Bob Warren, Chairman of the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors. “In an effort to alleviate some of the stress that our residents were feeling after this storm, which downed trees throughout our county, we decided to waive the tipping fees at the landfill for 90 days.”

The Pittsylvania County landfill is located at 382 Rainbow Lane, Dry Fork, VA 24549 and is open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The landfill will also open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. the first and third Saturday of every month through May 14.

Under normal circumstances Pittsylvania County charges a tipping fee of $41 per ton. The waiving of the landfill tipping fees was part of a local emergency declaration in anticipation of additional winter storms that were predicted to be even more severe but ultimately. did not have significant impact on Pittsylvania County.

Citizens should not deposit storm debris at any of the convenience centers, which are designed to handle residential garbage only.
