Virginia Cooperative Extension
The Pittsylvania County office of the Virginia Cooperative Extension provides comprehensive comprehensive agricultural services for Pittsylvania County farmers and education through programs in Agriculture and Natural Resources, Family and Consumer Sciences, 4-H Youth Development, and Community Viability.
Agriculture and Natural Resources
The Agriculture and Natural Resources Program provides research-based solutions to production challenges in the areas of commercial crop production, animal agriculture and horticulture as well as home lawn and gardens. VCE provides a wide variety of services including pest diagnosis and remediation recommendations, soil testing, herd health management and pesticide safety education among others.
4-H Youth Development
Pittsylvania County 4-H provides quality experiential learning opportunities to youth ages 5-19. This organization fosters the development and application of life skills such as responsibility, cooperation, and self-motivation with all involved. With opportunities including teen leadership, public speaking, gardening, career development, livestock, and beyond, there is something for everyone!
Family Nutrition Program
The Family Nutrition Program offers free nutrition programs to teach limited-resource youth in grades K-12 how to make healthier food choices and to be more physically active. With all the programs we offer there are free food tastings to reiterate the lesson on healthy eating and hands on cooking demonstrations for the older youth. Our program will also enhance our young youth to develop and understand the important of why nutrition is so important into our daily lifestyle and physical well-being.
