Elected Officials
There are twelve elected positions in Pittsylvania County: seven positions on the Board of Supervisors and five Constitutional Officers. Aside from the Clerk of Circuit Court, each of these positions serve four-year terms. Each member of the board of Supervisors represents a particular district, whereas the five constitutional officers serve the entire county.

Board of Supervisors
Pittsylvania County is governed by a 7-member Board of Supervisors, who are elected by district for 4-year terms. The Board appoints the County Administrator.

Clerk of the Circuit Court
The circuit court is the general jurisdiction trial court with authority to try all types of civil and criminal cases. The clerk is elected for 8-year terms.

Commissioner of the Revenue
The Commissioner of the Revenue assesses the value of personal property, business personal property, machinery and tools, and processes state income tax returns.

Commonwealth’s Attorney
Elected for four year terms, the Pittsylvania County Commonwealth's Attorney prosecutes criminal cases on behalf of Pittsylvania County.

Sheriff
The Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Department is responsible for courthouse security, maintains the local jail, and responds to and investigates law-enforcement matters.

Treasurer
The Treasurer's Office is responsible for the receipt, collection and safekeeping of revenue and the appropriate accounting for the receipt and disbursement of revenue.
