Adoption Information

Dogs that are not claimed by their owners are available for adoption after a 10 day waiting period.

We reserve the right to refuse adoption of any shelter animal. Adoptable dogs must exhibit good temperament and health to be considered.

Adoption Requirements
  • The adoption fee is $40 and you must have the dog vaccinated against rabies, spayed or neutered and obtain a county dog tag.
  • Vaccinations may be administrated by your veterinarian or by any number of clinics available. See an animal Control Officer for more information.
  • Proof of vaccination is required for adoption.
  • Spaying or neutering is a condition of adoption. Your veterinarian or by any number of clinics can perform this. See an Animal Control Officer for more information.
  • Proof of Spaying or neutering is required for adoption.
  • Dog tags can be obtained at the County Treasure's Office.

Cat Adoptions
Cats are not held at the county facility they are brought to the Danville Area Humane Society where they can be seen for adoption. The Danville Area Humane Society can be reached by calling 434-799-0843, via email, or stopping by:
