Since the creation of the Pittsylvania County Parks and Recreation Department in April 2011, we have worked hard to build a quality department from the ground up by providing professionally managed youth sports, built recreation fields, built four new parks and acquired The Community Center in Chatham to house the department.
The Department provides youth sports to more than 2,000 children competing on more than 130 teams in 6 sports (baseball, softball, football, cheerleading and basketball) with more than 35,000 spectators annually.
In 2015, we installed a walking track around our youth fields at Brosville Elementary School. In 2016, we have added four community parks at each of the middle schools (Titan Park, Hawk Park, Wildcat Park and Cavalier Park). Park amenities include playgrounds, picnic shelters, walking tracks and restrooms. Visit our Facilities page to view pictures of our parks and playing fields. Our goal with these new parks is to increase the quality of life in the county by making more opportunities to get out and get moving available to County residents in their community. The Brosville track and middle school parks will allow us to start to address the health and wellness of our County.
In 2017, we acquired the Chatham Community Center (shown above) to serve as a home for the department. The Center is available for rentals as well as recreational programming for the department. Visit the Community Center webpage for more information on this facility.
It's an exciting time in Parks and Recreation in Pittsylvania County! We've only just begun!
